Dengue claims 269 lives in 2017

July 14, 2017   05:09 pm

The National Coordinator of the Dengue Control Unit (DCU), Dr. Hasitha Tissera stated that 89,885 dengue cases have been recorded in 2017, while claiming 269 lives.

He added that the prevailing weather condition has made it harder to control the spread of the virus across the country, hence the government has been working with both the public and all its ministries to help fight the spread of the virus.

The DCU added that the most number of cases have been recorded from the Western Province, while individuals between the ages of 5 and 19 were among those affected the most.

Dr. Tissera went onto say that the dengue epidemic has been one of the biggest the country has faced, and that every effort has to be made to reduce the spread of the disease, while treating those affected accordingly.
