Cyprus Police on Friday launched a disciplinary investigation against an officer after the escape of a 39-year-old Sri Lankan woman from Larnaca general hospital.

The woman, who was being held at the Menogia detention facility, escaped on Thursday from the hospital where she was recovering from surgery for an unspecified affliction.

“A disciplinary inquiry has been ordered by the police leadership to determine whether the officer guarding her had any responsibility,” deputy spokesman Stelios Stylianou said.

Police have appealed for public assistance in finding the woman.
