July 16, 2017   07:59 pm

Politicians and locals in the North have engaged in a protest requesting the government to stop the large scale destruction of forests found in Mullaitivu, Mulliyaweli and Kulamurippu.

Ada Derana reporters revealed that the protests had occurred in Mulliyaweli today (16).

Protestors say that the Kulamurippu area is being destroyed under the guise of re-settlement, while Wilpattu is being destroyed in the same manner in which a wildfire would.

People in Mullaitivu have urged environmentalists and government officials to intervene to stop the destruction and resettlement carried out in the area.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Ms.Ranthi Shanthi Skandarajah, Northern Provincial Ministers representing Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Jaffna and civil society representatives joined in with the protests.
