Deputy Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Harsha de Silva said that social media had the ability to enthrone a government as well as dethrone one.

He expressed his sentiments yesterday (18) at the official launch of the new ‘ivoice’ website, which was a joint effort by the Sri Lanka Journalists’ Development Forum and the United Nations Population Fund.

Dr. Harsha de Silva also pointed out that it was unwise to block or regulate social media.

“You have to be brave as a politician to be able to be criticized about what you’re doing,” Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva said, explaining that social media facilitated creative thinking of the younger generation.
