Navy arrests 8 Indian fishermen

Eight Indian fishermen have been arrested along with a fishing trawler for poaching in Sri Lankan seas north of Point Pedro. 

The interception was made by Sri Lanka Navy personnel on fast attack boats attached to the Northern Naval Command last night (21) some 15 nautical miles off Point Pedro. 

The arrested fishermen, the boat and equipment are to be handed over to the Jaffna Assistant Fisheries Director for onward action.

This is the fifth such incident this month.  According to Indian media reports, the arrested fishermen are from Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu.
