Suspect arrested over grenade attack in Angunakolapelessa

The suspect linked to the grenade attack in Angunakolapelessa on the 22 of this month (July), has been arrested by the police. 

Police Media Unit stated that the arrest was made after extensive investigations carried out by police personnel. 

At least seventeen individuals were injured and hospitalized due to a clash involving two groups in the Wetiya Junction area in Angunakolapelessa.

Police said that a fight had broken out between two groups at Wetiya Junction on the Embilipitiya – Nonagama road and that one individual had also hurled a hand grenade at the location. 

Fourteen injured persons have been admitted to the Embilipitiya Hospital while another 3 are receiving treatment at the Tangalle Hospital. 

The clash is believed to have occurred as a result of a longstanding dispute between the two groups. Several individuals had also sustained injuries from attacks carried out using metal poles while the suspects have reportedly fled the area.

The suspect will be presented to the Angunakolapelessa Magistrate’s Court today (23).
