46% decline in cigarette consumption - Rajitha

July 23, 2017   02:50 pm

Minister of Health, Rajitha Senaratne stated that the consumption of cigarettes had reduced by 46%, within the country.

He added that the reason behind the decline was the increase in tax rates imposed by the government on tobacco and cigarettes themselves.

Senaratne made these statements while attending a press conference held in Gampaha.

However, MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena stated that the actions of the current government have been encouraging the use of tobacco and alcohol within the country.
