17850 kg of tea unfit for consumption seized in Mawathagama

 A lorry carrying tea unfit for human consumption was taken into the custody of the police, in the Mawathagama area. 

The lorry was found upon a raid carried by personnel of the Mawathagama Police, after receiving an anonymous complaint regarding the contents being transported.  

 Police were able to seize 510 bags of waste products of tea, weighing a total of 17850 kg. 

Police reported that an individual linked to the matter has been arrested. 

The arrestee, who has been reported as a resident of the Dodanduwa, will be presented to the Pillassa Magistrate’s Court in the future, while police have commenced further investigations on the matter.
