Over 36,000 deserters still at large

The Sri Lanka Army issued a statement that over 4300 Army deserters had been taken into custody over the past few months whilst a further 36,000 are still at large.
Speaking to the media, Military Spokesperson Brigadier Roshan Seneviratne stated that the Military was able to apprehend 776 Army deserters through a successfully conducted special operation on August 18, 2017.
It was also reported that to date, 4377 Army deserters have been apprehended whilst over 5000 soldiers from the Army,Navy and Air-Force have been taken into custody.
Brigadier Seneviratne also stated that according to Military intelligence there are over 36,000 deserters from the armed forces still at large. He further mentioned that steps are being taken to arrest the soldiers to legally discharge them from their duties.
