Collision on Southern Expressway leaves 01 deceased and 06 injured

A collision of vehicles on the Southern Expressway today (24) near the Kurundugahahetekma exit has taken the life of 01 motorist while injuring 06 others. 

The Police have reported that the accident occurred when a van travelling towards Matara attempted to overtake a lorry travelling in the same direction.

The motorist in the van attempted to overtake the lorry and lost control of the vehicle colliding with the lorry and later on with the dividing safety wall situated in the middle of the road. The impact of both collisions forced the vehicle off the road leading to the sustained death and injuries. 

The injured individuals were admitted to the Elpitiya and the Kalutara Nagoda hospitals where unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle passed away.  The Police have reported that the deceased person was a 45-year old resident of the Akuressa region.
