MP Bandula Gunawardane stated that the Budget for 2017 has to be drafted to satisfy the ambitions of the international market, regardless of the wishes of the Ministry of Finance.

Speaking to the media at a press briefing today (19), MP Gunawardane stated that the Budget allocations for 2016 were extremely unsuccessful and that former Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake should accept responsibility for its failures.

It was further mentioned that the Budget for the year 2016 had falsified facts and figures that had dire repercussions on the economy. MP Gunawardane stated that the Ministry of Finance should learn from its past failures and ensure that the Budget that will be proposed for 2017 will not have such fallacies.

He also stated that several essential items saw an unnecessary spike in price due to the errors made when drafting the previous budget.
