Cost per kilometer for Highways reduced by Rs.3 Billion – Kiriella

Minister of Highways and Higher Education Lakshman Kiriella stated that the current government has been able to reduce the cost of construction for 1 kilometer of all Highway projects by approximately 3 billion rupees. 

The Minister stated that the previous regime spent 6.9 billion rupees to construct 1 kilometer of the Southern expressway while the current government is spending only 3.9 billion rupees per kilometer for the Central Expressway that is currently being constructed.   

Speaking to the media at a press briefing in Colombo, Minister Kiriella stated that political opposition for the Central Highway project is still at large even though the government has taken steps to reduce the cost of the project drastically.
