GMOA strike action affects patients island-wide

Health services in a large number of hospitals were interrupted as a result of the strike action launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA).

The GMOA launched the strike action today (21) morning based on a number of demands including the closing-down of SAITM.

Dr. Saman Ratnayaka, Director of Kandy Teaching Hospital said that the functioning of the OPD collapsed due to the strike action causing severe inconvenience to the patients.

Many patients in Hatton area have also been affected by the strike, Ada Derana Regional correspondent Ranjith Rajapakse reported.

Meanwhile Ada Derana Badulla correspondent reported that OPD patients of Badulla Base Hospital were inconvenienced by the strike.

Patients in Polonnaruwa Base Hospital have also been affected by the strike action, Polonnaruwa District correspondent Asela Dharmawansa reported.

The patients allege that they face numerous difficulties due to the strike action lunched by the GMOA.

However the strike action will continue until 8 am tomorrow (22) GMOA Media Spokesperson Doctor Samantha Anada said.
