Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe has been granted bail by the Palmadulla Magistrate’s Court.

He was arrested by the Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) this morning over charges of concealing evidence during the investigation held into a murder involving former Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara.

Jayasinghe was summoned by the SIU today (25) to record a statement over allegedly prevaricating evidence during the investigation held into the shooting incident in Kahawatte and was subsequently arrested.

Former Deputy Minister of Power and Energy Premalal Jayasekara was arrested on January 9, 2015  in connection with the shooting incident.

The incident took place at the venue of an election rally of the presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

A political supporter, who was engaged in decorating the election stage, was wounded in the shooting and succumbed to injuries in hospital.
