Small lorry gutted in fire on Expressway

October 2, 2017   03:58 pm

A vehicle had reportedly caught fire near the 4.2km Post between Kahathuduwa and Kottawa interchanges on the Southern Expressway.

Police said that a small lorry transporting plastic items had burst into flames and that only the driver was inside the vehicle at the time. He had managed to escape the vehicle unharmed as the fire started spreading.

The fire, which is suspected to have been caused by a technical fault, has completely destroyed the vehicle.

The incident had also resulted in heavy traffic congestion on that lane on the expressway for a small time period.
