SM Ranjith moves Supreme Court over PC polls

Former Chief Minister of the North Central Province S.M. Ranjith has submitted a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition to the Supreme Court.

The petition has been filed seeking a court order demanding that the government holds immediate elections for three Provincial Councils, for which polls have been pushed back after their terms ending. 

The Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya and its other members, the Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General have been named as respondents in the petition.
