Suspect detained for possession of illegally imported contraband

Police sources report that a suspect illegally selling contraband in Talawakelle was detained earlier today (17), by officials of the Talawakelle police. 

The suspect was arrested for selling cigarettes mixed with illegally imported tobacco at a retail shop in Talawakelle. The arrest was made following intelligence provided to the Talawakelle police. 

Over 200 illegally imported cigarettes were confiscated from the retail shop at the time of the arrest. 

The suspect will be produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s court.
