The Chief Minister of the Uva Province, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, has proposed that concession be introduced for ‘Kithul Toddy’ as an alternative for people who consume hard liquor.

Speaking at an event held at the auditorium of the Uva Province Library yesterday (21), he stated that Kithul toddy is a local drink that contains medicinal properties which can help prevent diseases.

He claimed that in the past our ancestors have lived for over 100 years by drinking toddy.

The Chief Minister said that the government, which has provided tax concessions for beer, should also provide some concession for Kithul toddy and promote it in the country.
