People need not be unnecessarily afraid – Anura Priyadarshana

Minister of Disaster Management Anura Priyadarshana Yapa stated that there is no reason for the people to be unnecessarily afraid of the current meteorological conditions Sri Lanka is experiencing as a result of an atmospheric depression. 

He stated that certain parties have needlessly instilled fear in the minds of the people by spreading false rumours on the current state of affairs. 

The Minister further stated that there is no possibility of a tsunami or cyclone hitting the coasts of the island. 

The Meteorological Department will continue to provide regular updates on the weather the Minister said.
