Cyclone OCKHI now 850Km west of Sri Lanka

The cyclone (named OCKHI) in the Arabian Sea is now located at about 850km to the west of the island and moving further away from the island. Hence its effect for the country is expected to be lessen gradually.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central provinces and in the Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2.00p.m.

Fairly heavy falls (50-75mm) can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in the Puttalam districts.

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50kmph can be expected in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
