Sajith wants death penalty given for killing tuskers

December 7, 2017   12:19 pm

Minister Sajith Premadasa says that the hunting and killing of wild elephants is a very prominent business in the country and that the murder of notorious tusker ‘Dala Puttuwa’ is not the first instance this has happened.

“What is the punishment given for hunting a tusker? I clearly say that the death sentence should be given straightaway,” he said, speaking to reports.

The Housing and Construction Minister stated that although that is not the existing law it should be antedated and everyone involved in the killing of ‘Dala Puttuwa’ should be given the death penalty.

Premadasa stated that unfortunately the killing of this tusker will be a hot topic in the country only for a couple of weeks and people will soon forget ‘Dala Puttuwa’ and the tragedy which happened.

He stated that the infamous tusker’s killers will go back to hunting and murdering wild elephants as usual if nothing is done now.
