The court case filed against MP Wimal Weerawansa for causing a public disturbance while staging a protest against the arrival of prince Zeid Bin Ra’ad al-Hussein in Sri Lanka was called at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court earlier today (11).

Ada Derana court correspondents stated that Wimal Weerawansa who is the chief witness for the case filed by the Kurunduwatte police was not present at court.

The legal representatives of Wimal Weerawansa stated that he was unable to appear at court as he had to attend parliamentary sessions today.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara ordered that MP Weerawansa was to obtain a letter from the Secretary of the parliament confirming his participation at parliamentary sessions today and that he was to certify it from the court.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate thereby postponed the case till March 19, 2018. He requested the Kurunduwatte police to clearly document charge sheets against the 7 witnesses called before the court.
