December 14, 2017   03:28 pm

The nomination lists of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna for the Weligama Urban Council and Maharagama Urban Council have been rejected.

Former Mayor of Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council, Dhanasiri Amaratunga, says that the party will seek legal advice on the matter and that the issue will be taken to courts tomorrow.

It has been reported that the nominations list for the Maharagama Urban Council was rejected due to one of the party’s female candidates failing to specify her gender despite filling out her information correctly.

The nomination list for the Weligama Urban Council has been rejected due to the lack of authorization by an authorized person. The party had filed objections to this, however that too has been rejected again, Ada Derana reporter said.

Former Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, K. Muthukumarana, stated that they will pursue legal actions with regard to the rejection of the nomination list.

UPDATE (4.11pm) - The party’s nomination lists for the Panadura Urban Council, Badulla Pradeshiya Sabha, Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha and Agalawatta Pradeshiya Sabha have also been rejected.
