Govt to import 100,000 MT rice per month

The Government has decided to import 100,000 metric tonnes of rice per month until next year’s Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the Ministry of Finance said today. 

Issuing a statement, the ministry said that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management (CEM) chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe decided to import that amount of rice each month in order to endure that consumers are able to easily and affordably purchase sufficient rice during the festive season.
