JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution will be presented to the Parliament as a private member’s bill in May.

Speaking at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters today (25), he said that although they had planned to bring the bill in April, it had to be pushed back due to various reasons.

The leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) stated that they intend to discuss the proposal with the Mahanayake Theros , representatives of political parties and civil society groups after presenting it to the Parliament.

He stated that despite the government taking the initiative to formulate a new Constitution, the process has presently come to a standstill midway.

Dissanayake further stated that this is the most suitable time to present the bill under the prevailing situation.
