Trains on up-country line delayed due to derailed train

An observation compartment of a special passenger train travelling had derailed causing trains on the up-country line to be delayed.

The train compartment had derailed at the 105 1/2th mile post between the Rosella and Hatton stations.

Reportedly, the incident had occurred at around 5.15 pm this evening (22).

According to the Railway Control Room, they had been able to disconnect the derailed compartment from the train, while the passengers on the compartment had been transferred to other compartments and sent to Colombo.

Measures have been taken to get the derailed train compartment back on track, says the Railway Control Room.
