The prices of another 15 varieties of expensive drugs and 10 cancer drugs have been reduced with immediate effect, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.
Accordingly the prices of lifesaving antibiotics, diabetes medicine and equipment, medicines for prostate diseases, medicines for asthma and breathing difficulties, painkillers, medicine for neurological diseases as well as 10 varieties of expensive cancer drugs will be reduced, he said.
The minister said that this will be done according to Prof. Senaka Bibile’s drug policy and that similarly the government reduced the prices of 48 essential drugs in 2016 thereby granting immense relief to the public.
The Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine announced this during a ceremony held today (31) at the Nelum Pokuna Theater to felicitate Dr Senaratne on being elected as a Vice Chairman of the World Health Organisation (WHO), with the participation of the President and Prime Minister.
