Three women arrested as police bust illicit liquor distillery

Kegalle Police has raided an illicit liquor distillery and apprehended three female suspects yesterday (11).
The raid was carried out based on a tip-off received by the Kegalle police officers regarding an illicit liquor distillery that was being maintained in Karandupana area in Kegalle.
Accordingly, the police have seized 3150 litres of Goda, 137 litres of illicit liquor, 7 gas cylinders, 2 gas cookers, 2 copper coils, 225 kg of sugar, 5 kg of jaggery, 20 packets of yeast and 20 barrels along with the three suspects.
The arrested suspects, aged 20, 24 and 49 years, are residents of Kegalle, Kadawatha and Ja-Ela areas.
The three suspects are to be produced before the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court today (12), while Kegalle Police is conducting further investigations on the incident.
