Mortar ammunition recovered from a well

The Bomb Disposal Unit of Police Special Task Force (STF) has recovered 9 rounds of mortar ammunition from inside a public well located in the Puthukkudiyiruppu area.

According to police, several employees of the Puthukkudiyiruppu Pradeshiya Sabha and residents of the area had been engaged in cleaning a public well, when they detected some mortar ammunition inside the well.

The Pradeshiya Sabha workers had then informed Puthukkudiyiruppu Police regarding the incident.

Under the orders of Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court obtained by the Puthukkudiyiruppu Police, the Bomb Disposal Unit of STF had inspected the public well yesterday (17).

Subsequently, the Kilinochchi Bomb Disposal Unit had defused the mortar ammunition and Puthukkudiyiruppu Police is conducting further investigations regarding the discovery.
