Three members of ‘Aava’ gang arrested

Three ‘Aava’ gang members who had been on the run after injuring two people using swords have been arrested in Jaffna, today (27).

On the 15th January, two persons had been injured by cuts to their necks near the Nachchi Amman Kovil in Jaffna.

Based on a tip-off received by the Jaffna Divisional Crimes Unit, they had managed to arrest the three ‘Aava’ gang members who are connected to the crime.

Along with the suspects, the police have also found 02 swords used for the crime as well.

The suspects had been then handed over to the Jaffna Police for further questioning.

The arrested gang members are a 25-year-old Chandrabala Akila Suman, a 19-years old Nagarathnam Dilakshan alias ‘Motta Shiva’ and a 23-year-old named Yuwarasa Dilakshan. The arrested suspects are residents of Jaffna and Manippai, according to the police.

As per Jaffna Magistrate’s order, the suspects have been remanded until tomorrow (28) for an identification parade.

Jaffna Police is conducting further investigations on the matter.
