UPDATE (11.45 am): According to the Ada Derana correspondent, the vehicular flow Hatton-Colombo main road has now returned back to normal and the route is now open for traffic.

The Colombo-Hatton main road is currently temporarily closed at the Malliyapo Junction due to a protest by plantation workers.

The plantations workers of Hatton had launched a protest at around 10 am this morning (28) demanding their basic daily wage be increased up to Rs 1000.

Estate workers say that the Trade Union leaders of the estate sector deceived them by only increasing their salary up to Rs 700 when they were promised Rs 1000.

The vehicular flow of the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya and Hatton-Colombo main road has been completely disrupted at the Hatton Malliuppu junction due to the protest.
