Parliament adjourned following heated debate over CC

Parliament was adjourned for 10 minutes for a party leaders’ meeting, a short while ago, following a heated debate in the House regarding the Constitutional Council.

Parliament convened at 10.30 a.m. today with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya delivering a special statement regarding the Constitutional Council at the commencement of the session.

Afterwards UPFA MP Mahinda Amaraweera requested for a debate regarding the Constitutional Council, however the Speaker turned down that request.

This resulted in an uproar in the Parliament as opposition MPs raised their objections.

Therefore the Parliament was adjourned for 10 minutes by the Speaker who called an urgent party leaders’ meeting at the Parliament Complex.
