Railway strike temporarily called off

April 9, 2019   07:22 pm

The Railway strike scheduled from midnight today (09) has been temporarily called off, stated Ada Derana reporter.

This decision has been taken after a discussion with the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga.

Employees of several divisions of the railway service had earlier decided to commence a 48-hour token strike starting from midnight today.

On April 7th, Secretary of the Railway Operators Trade Union P.M.P. Peiris stated that they resorted to this decision due to the government’s failure to pay their respective salary increments.
