The A-9 road has been temporarily closed at Thibbatuwewa, Kekirawa due to a protest by residents after a hit-and-run accident involving a lorry killed 3 children.

Ada Derana reporter said that residents in the area blocked the road at Korasagolla Junction and protested after three children were killed in a hit-and-run accident this morning (8).

Police said that a lorry had run over four children on the side of the road and fled the scene while three of the children had died on the spot.

The other child has been admitted to the Kekirawa Hospital with critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s ICU.

Residents in the area launched the protest demanding that authorities immediately arrest the driver of the lorry which fled after the incident.

However, the lorry involved in the accident has been found abandoned in the Ipalogama area while Kekirawa Police is conducting further investigations to arrest the vehicle’s driver.
