A decision has been taken not to announce the island’s best rankings for the Grade 5 Scholarship Examinations and the G.C.E. Ordinary level examinations in the future, Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.

The Education Minister made this comment addressing an event held at Sri Siddhartha Maha Vidyalaya in Galgamuwa to declare open the resource centre for the primary section of the school.

The minister said it is unnecessary to create competition among students by announcing the best rankings on the island.

A committee has been appointed on the matter and the Education Ministry will take immediate steps to stop this grading system, the minister added.
