CJ appoints 3-judge benches to hear two cases

The Chief Justice has appointed two 3-member judge benches to hear two separate cases, stated the Attorney General’s Department.
The judge benches are appointed to hear the case on the 2012 Welikada Prison riots and the case against the elephant trafficker SAmarappulige Niraj Roshan alias ‘Ali Roshan’.
Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya has made the relevant appointments after considering a request made by Attorney General Dappula de Livera, says State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne.
The three-judge bench hearing the case on Welikada Prison riot 2012 is chaired by Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga.
High Court judges Pradeep Hettiarachchi and Manjula Thilakaratne have been appointed as the other members of the judge bench.
Colombo High Court Judge Wikum Kaluarachchi is to chair the judge bench hearing the case of ‘Ali Roshan’ and seven other defendants while Colombo High Court judges Dhammika Ganepola and Adithya Patabandi.
