CID begins analyzing phone conversations on crimes committed under Madush

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has commenced analyzing the telephone conversations on four major crimes that have been committed under the directions of drug kingpin ‘Makandure Madush’, stated the Police Spokesperson.

‘Makandure Madush’, a notorious underworld figure wanted in the country for many crimes, is currently detained under the custody of the CID.

Makandure Madush was previously under the custody of the Dubai authorities after being arrested at a drug-fuelled party thrown by him in a Dubai hotel, back in October 2018.

Along with him, 31 Sri Lankans including underworld figures and celebrities such as singer Amal Perera and his son, actor Ryan Van Rooyen were also arrested in Dubai.

The Dubai authorities had deported the arrestees to Sri Lanka on several occasions and Sri Lankan authorities took them into custody for questioning upon their arrival. Some have been remanded as per court orders while others were released after recording statements.

Samarasinghe Arachchige Madush Lakshitha alias Makandure Madush is an underworld gang leader, who has been in hiding abroad for the past couple of years. He allegedly operates his drug network, extortion rackets and other criminal activities through his accomplices in Sri Lanka. Police have been on the hunt for Madush, who is one of Sri Lanka’s most wanted criminals, for the past couple of years as he had managed to evade arrest by Sri Lankan and foreign authorities.
