Fmr ‘Rakna Lanka’ chairman Victor Samaraweera remanded

Former Chairman of Rakna Lanka Security Company Victor Samaraweera, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the Avant-Garde case, has been remanded until 19th of July.
The order was delivered by the Galle Chief Magistrate today (09).
Samaraweera was arrested yesterday (08) after he surrendered to the CID.
On July 5th, the Attorney General informed the Acting Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest the Chairman of Avant-Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd Nissanka Senadhipathi and former Rakna Lanka Chairman Victor Samaraweera and 7 others.
The AG had also informed the Acting IGP that there is no legal obstacle to immediately arrest the suspects in connection with the Avant-Garde case and produce them before the court.
The AG had further instructed to name P.B. Premachandra, Damayanthi Jayaratne and Victor Samaraweera as suspects of the case and proceed according to the provisions of the Penal Code Ordinance, record their statements and produce them before the court as suspects without delay.
The Bribery Commission had filed a case against the Chairman of Avant-Garde Maritime Services and the former Chairman of Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Ltd. Major General Palitha Fernando, for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 35.5 million to maintain a floating armoury at the Galle Fort during the regime of the former government.
