Weapons hidden by Zahran’s group recovered in Palamunai

Police officers have recovered a stash of weapons and explosive material believed to have been hidden by members of NTJ leader Zahran Hashim’s terrorist group at Palamunai, Ampara.

Police Media Spokesperson said that a T-56 assault rifle, a magazine, 30 bullets and materials used for explosives have been recovered by the Police.

The explosive material recovered include 07 detonators, 04 gelatnite sticks, electrical wires, ammonia and urea. 

Ada Derana reporter said that two other types of explosive material which are yet to be properly identified have also been discovered in the stash. 

The discovery was made his morning (18) by officer of the Ampara Police Division based on information provided by the State Intelligence Service (SIS).

The weapons and materials were reportedly found buried under a goat cage in a property located near the road to the Oluvil Harbour at Palamunai, Oluvil.

Police suspect that the firearm and explosive material had been hidden by members of the terrorist group responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks.
