Two persons have been killed following an accident near the Habarana Town on the Habarana-Polonnaruwa Road.

The accident had occurred this evening (18) when a van carrying Army personnel and a three-wheeler collided head-on with each other.

Reportedly, three other persons have been hospitalized over the injuries from the accident and two of them are critical condition, according to hospital sources.

The injured persons are two females and a female student, stated the Police.

The driver of the three-wheeler and one male who had been travelling on the three-wheeler had died in the accident.

The deceased and the injured persons in the accident have been identified as residents of Jayanthipura in Hingurakgoda.

The Police believe that the cause of the accident is the carelessness of both the drivers and the inability of the three-wheeler driver to control the vehicle as 5 passengers had been travelling on it.

The injured persons are receiving treatment at the Dambulla hospital while the driver of the van has been arrested.

Habarana police have launched further investigations into the accident.
