A heroin smuggler has been sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court for the trafficking and possession of over 43 grams of heroin.

The order was delivered today (11) by the court sentencing 43-year-old Mohomed Musahir Gadafi, a father of five, who was arrested by police in the Maligakanda area in 2016 with approximately 43.44g of heroin.

The Attorney General had later filed a case against the suspect with the Colombo High Court.

Delivering the verdict following a three-year long trial, High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga stated that the defendant has been found guilty of charges including possession and trafficking of heroin.

The court then announced the sentence and gave the accused the death penalty.
