17 parties sign agreement to form ‘Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandanaya’

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) signed an agreement to form a new coalition, a short while ago.

The new coalition is named ‘Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandanaya’ (Sri Lanka Freedom People’s Alliance).

Seventeen political parties including the UPFA, SLFP and SLPP National Freedom Front (NFF), Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) and Mahajana Eksath Peramuna have joined the new alliance.

The ceremony to sign the agreement commenced at The Foundation Institute with the auspices of SLPP presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the leaders of the other political parties who are to be a part of the new alliance.

This new party will reportedly contest under the symbol ‘chair’ for the upcoming elections.
