The Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya says that the release of the Presidential Election results of Ratnapura, Kegalle and Badulla districts are likely to get delayed due to minor flood conditions in those districts.

In a special statement released to the media, he said that the heavy rainfall experienced in the aforementioned three districts this evening had led to minor flood situations in parts of those districts.

Due to this the transferring of ballot boxes had been delayed and as a result of this the counting of votes at certain counting centers had commenced by around 10pm.

Therefore the release of results of the Ratnapura, Kegalle and Badulla districts could likely be delayed, the Chairman said.

In addition to this, a vehicle transporting ballot boxes had been involved in an accident, but none of the ballot boxes or officials were harmed in the incident, he said.
