36-year-old injured in shooting at Balapitiya

A person has been hospitalized following a shooting incident in the Weliwathugoda area in Balapitiya this morning (17).

Two unidentified gunmen who had arrived on a motorcycle had opened fire on a 36-year-old father of one who was at his residence at around 7.00 a.m. today.

The victim has been admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital and is reportedly in critical condition. 

Sunil Kumara, the 36-year-old man injured in the shooting, is employed as a driver in Qatar and had only returned to Sri Lanka on January 18, according to his relatives. 

Ahungalla Police is conducting further investigations into the shooting.
