Religion brings mental relaxation and well-being for human beings who have to move forward in life facing numerous challenges, obstacles and complexities, says President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his message for Maha Sivarathri festival.

“Our Tamil brothers and sisters are also among the Sri Lankans who live with hope and aspiration believing in a new tomorrow.”

The President says, as the leader of the country, he is pleased to see that all citizens are committed for the progress of the motherland while ensuring inter-religious harmony and co-existence with commitment.

“I join with all Sri Lankan Hindu devotees who are dedicating themselves to celebrate the Maha Sivarathri festival which signifies dispelling darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge and understanding.”

Hindu devotees believe that various religious rituals performed throughout the day of Maha Sivarathri, which is one of the most important events of the Hindu calendar, will help to eliminate dark evil thoughts emerging in the hearts of the human beings and will pave the way for spiritual bliss.

The President wished that soul of every human being will be brightened through the light of the lamps lit on the day of Maha Sivarathri.
