Man arrested for demanding extortion from MP

An individual has been arrested for extorting money from UNP Parliamentarian Ishak Rahman by threatening him.

The arrest was made by the crimes investigation unit of Anuradhapura yesterday (21).

The police officers nabbed the suspect in action while he was receiving Rs. 500,000 as an advance payment of extortion money.

According to reports, the suspect had extorted money to remove a video concerning the parliamentarian that he had published on social media.

He was produced before Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court today (22) and remanded until March 5.
