Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader MP Rauff Hakeem says that the party will join the UNP-led ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’, the new alliance formed under the leadership of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, to contest the upcoming parliamentary election.

The former minister made this announcement at a press conference held at the parliament complex today (28) which was also attended by MP Sajith Premadasa and other members of the SLMC.

Hakeen said that as a respected party mainly representing the Muslims of the country, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and its parliamentary group have decided to reach an agreement and join the alliance and contest the polls.

“We see this as a front established to maintain true national unity,” he said.

The SLMC leader said they have an understanding with regard to contesting the election such as which districts they will contest and how their candidates will be put forward in those districts.

Speaking at the press briefing, the Opposition Leader said that their primary objective of this movement is ‘Sri Lanka First’, a path under which all citizens will be treated equally.
