UPDATE (8.05 p.m.) : SriLankan Airlines today announced that the airline is compelled to temporarily suspend all its flights from 8th to 21st of April 2020 in view of the travel restrictions imposed by the destinations it operates to.

The airline said it is constantly reviewing the market conditions and the restrictions imposed by the various authorities and will be ready to recommence its operations at short notice even before the 21st April 2020 in the event such restrictions are lifted.

SriLankan Airlines said it is willing to operate special flights during this period to repatriate the Sri Lankans who are wanting to return to the country if required.

Further, the Airlines’ cargo services will continue to operate from its worldwide network special flights as and when required.

The urgent statement further said: “Despite various challenges faced by the Airline throughout its four-decade tenure, this is by far the most difficult and unfortunate period that the Airline is passing, similar to all its counterparts across the globe and communities in general.

In view of providing maximum ease to its valued passengers, who have been inconvenienced under these circumstances which are beyond the Airlines’ control, it has implemented a re-booking and reissue policy, which is available on www.srilankan.com

For further information and clarifications, passengers are requested to contact their travel agents, their nearest SriLankan Airlines Office or the Airlines’ Global Contact Centre on +94117771979.

As done in the past and ever since the outbreak of the pandemic, the Airline has been fulfilling its duty as the National Carrier by reaching out to fellow Sri Lankans seeking passage home and uplifting essential items such as medical aid. The Airline is fully prepared to steer any national endeavor expected of it, thus playing its role in Sri Lanka’s efforts to combat COVID 19.

Despite the prevailing bleak times, the Airline looks ahead with hope of resuming services soon to provide its passengers a more memorable and revamped travel experience.”

SriLankan Airlines has decided to suspend all its passenger flights from the 8th of April 2020.

The suspension will be in effect till the 30th of April, stated SriLankan Airlines.

However, cargo flights will be in operation during the aforementioned time period.
