Govt. allocates Rs 600 Mn to procure fish harvest

The government has allocated Rs 600 million to procure fish harvest from fishermen without delay.

This was revealed at the meeting of the ruling party, chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The allocation was made taking into account the difficulties that the fishing communities and the general public face in the face of novel coronavirus pandemic.

In the meantime, the government today imposed Maximum Retail Prices on several rice varieties with effect from today.

A maximum retail price (MRP) of Rs. 125 has been imposed on a kilogram of Keeri Samba while a maximum price of Rs. 90 has been imposed on a kilogram of Samba (red/white). Meanwhile, the MRP on Nadu is Rs. 90 per kg while the MRP on white-red raw rice is Rs. 85 per kg.
