The Ministry of Education has not taken any decision to reopen schools on June 01, stated the Ministry issuing a press release.

The press release further said that there is no truth in the reports of certain print media and websites that the schools will be reopened under several stages from June 01.

The Ministry points out that the aforementioned fake news claims that the Ministry of Education plans to open schools in June in several phases, and principals, teachers, and other staff should report to work from May 11. Further, schools will initially be reopened for Ordinary Level and Advanced Level students and for the rest of the children by June 01, as per the reports.

However, no such decision has been taken by the Ministry and the Secretary of the Ministry of Education has not informed any Provincial Education Authorities or other Heads of Institutions with this regard, pointed out the Ministry.

The date of reopening and the manner of reopening schools will be decided in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health and the policies of the government, said the Ministry.

Secretary of Education stated that the relevant decision will be implemented after informing the Provincial Education authorities and all other heads of the education sector.

Minister of Education Dullas Alahapperuma emphasized that the decision to reopen the schools will be implemented in the same manner that the decision to close schools was taken with the responsibility of protecting the lives of the children in the country.
